Review
This really cool architecturally designed building is what you first notice when you arrive at Orokonui Ecosanctuary. Surrounded by native grasses and shrubs this cleverly designed building uses a mixture of old shipping containers, wood with a large curved window frontage with views across the ecosanctuary and Blueskin Bay it is a stunning setting to have a day out with family and friends.

The Horopito cafe is spacious and absorbs the wonderful views.
The menu and cabinet food complements the sustainability ethos of the sanctuary itself by using the finest locally sourced organic vegetables and native spices.
Gluten free options are available and food can happily be adapted for the kids.

The café also composts its organic waste, uses UV treated rainwater and solar heated hot water.

Horopito cafe is child friendly with a designated Children's space with rugs, pillows, books and toys, as well as a table for colouring in and a rocking horse.

This cafe and ecosanctuary is definitely worth a visit, the grounds have various tracks to chose from, programmes and tours for all ages groups. You may even be lucky enough to see a Takahe or Kiwi. Check out their website for activities before visiting http://orokonui.nz
